FAQS - Emergency Dental

What should I do in a dental emergency?

Call us straight away! We hold emergency spots every day for these cases. Depending on the reason for your emergency, time can be critical to achieving a desired outcome and saving teeth. Never hold off on treatment if you are in pain, it means something is not right. Toothache – Take pain relief if necessary. If you are suffering with swelling apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth. Call us straight away 5482 7688.. Braces or retainers – Sometimes wires can come loose and cause irritation. If this is the case cover the end of the wire with a small piece of cotton ball or soft wax. If a wire is embedded in the cheek or tongue, do not attempt to remove it. Call us straight away 5482 7688. Tooth has been knocked out – If the tooth is dirty it needs to be cleaned first and foremost. Ideally rinse the tooth in milk whilst you are holding it by the crown (please not the roots). If milk is not available, use water briefly or have the patient suck it clean. If you can put the tooth back in the socket, or if not keep it in milk or ideally inside the patient’s cheek. We will need to see you as quickly as possible for successful replanting. Call us straight away 5482 7688. Broken tooth – If there is any debris surrounding the broken tooth clean it with warm water. If the tooth was broken from a collision, utilise a cold compress on the area to minimise swelling. If you can find the bits of broken tooth and keep them moist we may be able to bond them back onto the teeth almost invisibly. Call us straight away 5482 7688.
